After a few months abroad, Pocket Caravan’s tires hit the UK roads again with a gig outside a ruined Tudor castle!
We’ve also had some lovely feedback about the album ’7 Steps From The Border’. Rock’n'Reel call it an:
“instrumental showcase for an ensemble whose conspicuously nimble genre-refusing, border-crossing approach is mirrored by a no less obvious musical agility that manages to be simultaneously freewheeling and tightly honed.
An appetising smorgasbord of influences… with added heat and piquancy.
Pocket Caravan… play with all the reciprocal relish of the best ensembles.”
We were also very excited to hear Radio 3 presenter Lopa Kothari play the track New Forest Drag on her World on 3 shows a couple of times during March and April!
An absolutely amazing album launch! Thanks to all the people who trekked through London on a tube-strike…
Here are some photos taken by members of the audience, plus some photos of members of the audience!
And here’s a video of the band performing Miles Apart:
We have recorded an invitation for our album launch in Camden on 3rd November 2010
Here’s some footage of Pocket Caravan in the studio… plus some interviews with the quartet.
We’ve started recording for the second album. Most of the material is ready, and we’re doing album 2 very differently from the first.
Last time, for Landscapes, we invited as many guests into the studio as possible. We recorded absolutely everything everyone did, then waded through it all afterwards to fashion it into a complete piece.
This time we’ve taken another tack – just the quartet. We’ve been arranging and rehearsing all the tracks in advance and then recording them live. No overdubs (except for a touch of extra percussion and the magnificent Anselmo on Mandolin)…
But having said that, the tune you see here was done with some overdubs. Oh well, we never claimed to be purists…
Here’s a video of our new track. It was inspired by some of the tensest borders around the world. There are 7 beats in each bar, hence the name.
It was filmed live at the Forge venue, in Camden. Enjoy!
Welcome to the Pocket Caravan blog! Before we get up to date, I thought I’d attach a few of our old poster designs to give you a bit of history!
All posters were designed by Shira Geva.
That’s enough for now…
